Information for couples wishing to marry

For you to get married in one of our churches, you need to satisfy the following conditions:

1. You must both be free to marry (ie neither of you should have been married before)

2. One of you must be a baptised Roman Catholic

3. You must be prepared to attend a marriage preparation course.

4. You must both see your marriage as a lifelong commitment, and be open to the possibility of children.

If all the above conditions are met, then you can arrange a date, by telephoning 361161, giving a clear six months notice. Also, if you do not live in the Holy Trinity parish (comprising St Budeaux, Keyham and Beacon Park) then you will need permission from your own parish priest, who may decide he needs to see you as well. You will also need to visit Plymouth Register Office, since the civil authorities require notice of marriage to be given.

A timetable of steps to be taken might look like this:

6 months before wedding – contact parish office to book a date

At anytime after this – attendance at a Marriage Care Course – a place will be booked for you

3 months before wedding – interview with parish priest

6 weeks before wedding – visit Plymouth Register Office

2 weeks before wedding – interview with parish priest

Evening before wedding – rehearsal in Church

Fees

Organist - £35   Authorised Person (civil registers) - £10

Priest’s donation at couple’s discretion – it is customary, but not obligatory to offer him something. A choir can also be arranged, again, a donation is customary.
